For some time now, I have wanted to start a blog. What has held me back...? Fear and negative thoughts: "What will people think? Who am I to have a blog? How will my blog be different from the thousands already on the internet?" To overcome this fear, I needed to identify my purpose for having a blog. After some reflection, it became clear: to be a resource for others. I hope my blog can be a place for people when they need some good lovin', inspiration, and positive energy.
We all have a story to tell. I wholeheartedly believe that a part of living is to share our story in order to build connection with one another: "Connection is why we're here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives"(Brené Brown). Life is not a one size fits all kind of thing; it is a journey full of seasons. Seasons of change, growth, endings, new beginnings, love, loss, hope, fear, courage, anxiety, strength, and transformation. Through all of these seasons, we are discovering and becoming more confident in who we are and who we aspire to be.
While those closest to me would say that I have been a reflective person (sometimes, too reflective) since I was a tiny human, I believe my journey of self-exploration had a powerful push once I discovered my top 5 CliftonStrengths during graduate school, almost exactly five years ago. These five words have provided me with greater confidence in who I am and the direction I am headed. During that season of life, a now great friend and life mentor, Kristin, introduced me to Brené Brown and new depth was added to this endeavor. Brené Brown, a storyteller of courage, vulnerability, and authenticity, has opened my heart and mind to the world of loving ourselves, while letting go of who we think we're supposed to be and embracing who we are.
Each one of us is the narrator of our life story, of our truth. Speaking our truth and sharing our stories takes incredible courage as it reveals our imperfections, making us vulnerable and exposed. To those reading, I do not have all of the answers, but I hope my story and what I continue to learn along the way may provide you with comfort, encouragement, a spark of joy, and a reminder that you are not alone. Thank you for your compassion, curiosity, and support as we begin this journey together.
"Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do."- Brené Brown
With great love, Sam
