For the past few years in place of the traditional New Years resolutions, I have chosen a word for the year to provide direction and guidance, acting as an anchor to help me navigate the year ahead with purpose:
2017- Year of Positivity
2018- Year of Courage
2019- Year of Purpose
2020- Year of Trust
2021- Year of Curiosity
The year of curiosity and of the butterfly presented ups and downs, twists turns, beginnings and endings, and so much love. It's amazing to look back and reflect on all that has happened in a year... how fast and yet how slow time seems to move.
As I shared in my previous blog post, On the Other Side of Change, there are a variety of emotions that we experience in times of change. After 6 months being back in St. Paul, still getting settled in my new home and transitioning into the winter months, a blanket of sadness and darkness washed over me. I started to feel extreme loneliness and high anxiety- But isn't this change that what I wanted? "Shouldn't" I be happy? This is what I have been working towards. 6 months in and I was reminded that life is about embracing the transitions, to be curious and open to what they have to teach us, helping our growth and evolution into the next phase. As a dear friend and fellow healer shared with me, "we cannot rush the transformation, it is a journey of the soul; it's the soul's work. It is a path of discovery, there is nothing to fix. It is in the curious being when our life begins to unfold."
I've been searching for the words to sum up all that was 2021. And... I am at a loss for words. Instead, I'll let these photo tell the story of the year of curiosity and the butterfly. Here's to all that I have learned, felt, celebrated, released, and gained in 2021, all of which are guiding me with love into 2022- The Year of Creativity.
"What is creative living? It is any life that is driven more strongly by curiosity than by fear; a creative life is an amplified life; a happier life; an expanded life; bringing forth the jewels within you." - Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear.
